Al-Joman Sewing & Handicrafts Center: Stitching Empowerment into Jordan’s Future

In 2024, the Productive Sewing Workshop was launched in Amman by the Juman Charity Association, funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and implemented in partnership with CARE International. This workshop is more than just a place for needles and threads; it serves as a hub for sustainable economic growth. Local artisans, especially women, transform their sewing and handicraft skills into a source of income that promotes economic independence while preserving Jordan’s rich cultural heritage.

Since its opening, the workshop has trained over 50 women in sewing, embroidery, and handicrafts, with many graduates launching home-based projects and cooperatives that support the local community. The workshop’s success is further strengthened through strategic partnerships with organizations such as Sarh Global Consulting and Training Company, providing trainees not only with technical skills but also access to markets and professional mentorship, significantly expanding their economic and social opportunities.

This initiative reflects the Juman Charity Association’s strong belief that empowerment begins within the community. The workshop teaches more than skills; it builds confidence and proves that each stitched thread can create opportunities that transform entire families. As its activities expand, every crafted piece stands as a testament to the resilience of Jordanian artisans and their collective will to build a better future, fostering hope and sustainable development in the community.
